Thrifty Thursday-Repurposed Crib Spring

I have been in a repurposing phase for quite a while now, thank you pinterest for that!  I have a general rule about projects, though.  I will only spend my time doing something if I know it will be both pretty and useful when I’m done with it.  I’ve considered many projects, and the ones I’ve completed have passed the “worth my precious time” test.  So, today for Thrifty Thursday I’m going to share with you a project that I’m really happy with!  It could not have been easier to do!
We have had our crib since I was pregnant with D(my #1, who is almost 10!).  My Granny got it at an auction(we couldn’t afford one at the time.)  It’s a very old Winnie The Pooh crib, and it served us well for the most part.   I have been back and forth about getting rid of it.  We are planning to become foster parents in the near future, so there is the chance that I will need it.  After mulling it over for a while I decided that I would rather use pack n plays for foster babies-just easier.  Plus I’m not even sure we would be allowed to use that old crib with our foster kids-it’s ancient!  So, with that decision made I began dreaming of all the repurposing possibilities.  This is the first of what I’m sure will be a few projects that spring from that old crib.
All I did for this project is spray paint the spring.  Goodness, can we really even label this a “project?”  🙂
First I primed it.  The Kilz primer is my favorite.  It dries smooth, but make sure to shake the can really good before starting.  Once that was dry I added a light coat of this.
It turned out really pretty.  I didn’t coat it completely.  Once it was dry I just used a couple nails to hang it up in my closet.
I’m really happy with how it turned out.  I draped my long necklaces and hung the short ones.  It’s perfect for hanging all my fish hook earrings.  The only thing it’s not great for is post earrings, but you can see that I had saved the packaging that one of my sets came with and it hangs nicely on it.  Originally I was going to hang this thing in my office and use it as in inspiration board.  Who knows, it may end up there someday!
